XAUUSD at a make-or-break zone: 4,600 Breakout or 3,800 Retest?

Gold is approaching a technically important decision point. After several weeks of corrective pressure, XAUUSD is testing a major support cluster around 4,100, where the daily falling structure meets a long-term rising trendline on the weekly chart. The next move from this area could determine whether gold resumes its recovery toward 4,600 or extends the correction toward the 3,800 region.

XAUUSD Daily Chart Analysis

On the daily chart, gold remains inside a falling wedge-like structure that has developed since the rebound toward the 4,600–4,700 area. Successive lower highs and lower lows have compressed price into an increasingly narrow range, with the latest candles now trading close to the apex of the pattern.

The key area is 4,100. Price has repeatedly reacted around this level, and the most recent candles show that sellers have struggled to generate a decisive breakdown. The appearance of smaller-bodied candles and repeated rejection from lower prices suggests that downside momentum is beginning to lose strength.

The Stochastic Oscillator adds another interesting signal. The indicator is currently near the lower end of its range, with readings around 27.77 and 25.04, after recently recovering from oversold territory. The faster line is marginally above the signal line, creating an early bullish crossover. While this is not yet a strong momentum confirmation, it suggests that selling pressure may be fading as price tests support.

A break above the upper boundary of the falling structure would provide the first meaningful bullish confirmation. In that case, attention would shift back toward 4,600, which remains the major resistance level and the principal upside objective.

The alternative scenario depends on 4,100. A decisive daily close below this level would invalidate the developing bullish setup and expose 3,970 first, followed by the much more important 3,800 support zone.

Key Levels:

  • 4,100: Immediate support and the key decision level for the current structure.
  • 3,970: Secondary support if 4,100 fails.
  • 3,800: Major downside target and higher-timeframe demand area.
  • 4,600: Main resistance and primary bullish target.

XAUUSD Weekly Chart Analysis

The weekly chart makes the current area even more significant.

Despite the correction from the record high, gold remains above the long-term ascending trendline that has supported the broader bull market since early 2025. Price is now testing this trendline almost exactly around the 4,100–4,150 region, creating a clear confluence between horizontal support and dynamic trend support.

This is the area buyers need to defend.

Recent weekly price action shows that the decline has slowed considerably as XAUUSD approaches the trendline. The latest candle is attempting to stabilise above 4,100 after several weeks of selling pressure, suggesting that the market is beginning to react to the support rather than simply cutting through it.

If the ascending trendline holds, the broader bullish structure remains intact. A successful rebound from the current region could initially return gold toward the previous swing highs and eventually bring 4,600 back into focus.

However, a confirmed weekly break below both the trendline and 4,100 would represent a much more important technical deterioration. Such a move would expose the weekly fair value gap around the 3,800 area, which remains partially unfilled and could act as a natural downside magnet.

The 3,800 region therefore carries particular weight. It combines horizontal support with the higher-timeframe imbalance visible on the weekly chart, making it the main bearish objective if the current support structure fails.

XAUUSD Breakout Scenarios

Gold is effectively sitting at the intersection of short-term compression and long-term support.

Bullish Scenario: A confirmed breakout from the daily falling structure, while price continues to hold above 4,100 and the weekly ascending trendline, would strengthen the case for a broader recovery. The improving Stochastic structure would support this move, with 4,600 becoming the primary upside target.

Bearish Scenario: A decisive break and close below 4,100 would weaken both the daily and weekly technical structures. In this case, 3,970 would become the first downside level, followed by the weekly fair value gap around 3,800.

For now, the market remains at a genuine technical crossroads. The daily Stochastic is beginning to recover, the weekly trendline is still intact, and price continues to defend 4,100. A breakout from the current compression should provide the next directional signal.

Key path: 4,100 holds → 4,600 | 4,100 breaks → 3,970 → 3,800.
