Gold is approaching a decisive technical area after several weeks of steady selling pressure. XAUUSD is now testing the descending trendline on the daily chart around $4,190, while the 4-hour timeframe shows price challenging the upper boundary of a falling channel. Momentum is also beginning to improve, making the reaction around $4,190 increasingly important for the next directional move.
XAUUSD Daily Chart Analysis
On the daily chart, gold remains within the corrective structure that has developed since the August swing high near $4,700. Successive lower highs have kept price below a clearly defined descending trendline, which has now moved down toward the $4,190 area.
This makes the current level particularly important. The $4,190 region has already acted as a significant horizontal pivot, and price is now testing it at the same time as the descending trendline. A breakout here would therefore clear two technical barriers at once and provide the first meaningful sign that the recent bearish structure is beginning to lose control.
Recent candles show that sellers have struggled to extend the decline despite repeated pressure below $4,200. Price has stabilised around the $4,100–$4,190 region and is once again pressing against the descending resistance line, rather than accelerating toward fresh lows.
The Williams %R (14) also shows an improvement in momentum. The indicator currently stands near -69.47, having recovered from oversold territory below -80. This does not yet represent a fully bullish momentum signal, but it does show that downside pressure has eased noticeably. A continued rise in Williams %R alongside a price breakout above $4,190 would add confirmation to the bullish scenario.
If buyers establish price above $4,190, the next major target is located around $4,390. This level previously acted as an important reaction area and represents the main resistance visible on the daily chart.
On the other hand, failure to break the descending trendline would leave gold vulnerable to renewed selling. A decisive loss of $4,190 would shift attention back toward the major support at $3,970.
Key Levels:
$4,190: Critical pivot and descending trendline resistance.
$4,390: Main daily upside target following a confirmed breakout.
$3,970: Major downside support if $4,190 fails.
XAUUSD 4-Hour Chart Analysis
The 4-hour chart provides an even clearer view of the immediate setup.
Gold has been trading inside a well-defined descending channel since the August high, with both lower highs and lower lows maintaining the corrective structure. Price has now recovered from the lower part of the recent range and is directly testing the channel’s upper boundary around $4,190.
The latest bullish candle has pushed firmly into this resistance area, making the current test particularly relevant. A clean break above the upper channel line would represent a short-term change in structure and could trigger a faster recovery toward $4,260, followed by $4,300.
Momentum is beginning to support that possibility.
The Awesome Oscillator shows a notable bullish improvement. During the latest decline, price returned toward the $4,110 region, but the oscillator formed a significantly higher low compared with its previous momentum trough. This creates a bullish divergence, indicating that downside momentum has weakened even though price remained under pressure.
The most recent AO bars have also contracted sharply toward the zero line, with momentum beginning to turn positive. This suggests that sellers are losing strength just as price reaches the upper boundary of the channel.
The $4,110 level remains the key short-term support. Several recent candles have reacted from this area, making it the level buyers need to defend if the recovery is to remain intact.
XAUUSD Breakout Scenarios
Gold is now sitting at a genuine technical decision point, with the daily and 4-hour charts focused on the same $4,190 level.
Bullish Scenario: A decisive break and sustained hold above $4,190 would invalidate the immediate descending resistance structure. On the H4 chart, this would open the way toward $4,260 and $4,300. If momentum continues to strengthen, the broader daily target would then shift to $4,390. The improving Williams %R and bullish divergence on the Awesome Oscillator both support this possibility.
Bearish Scenario: If gold is rejected from the descending trendline and falls back below $4,190, attention would return to $4,110. A confirmed breakdown below this support would keep the descending channel intact and increase the probability of a deeper move toward the daily support at $3,970.
For now, momentum is improving, but price still needs to do the important part: break the trendline. The reaction around $4,190 should determine whether gold begins a broader recovery or resumes its corrective decline.
